The ransomware resulted in the cancellation of over 19,000 appointments and drove patients 70 km away during emergencies.

For example, machine learning, and Big Data promise to change healthcare completely with innovations like personalized medicine. This potential advancement promises to take into account possible individual reactions to medication and design medicine on-the-spot as necessary.

But, the question remains – can security take a backseat amidst incidences like the one at NHS?

According to Omar Al Omaha, the minister of state for artificial intelligence, governments around the world need to be more proactive. And, AI promises plenty of opportunities to do so.

According to news reports, over 50% of security experts are demanding AI innovation in the field for improvement in the virus detection process. Technology giants like Microsoft have already put over $1 bn in funding in AI-related research.
